Where Is It From? Blodite Meaning

These stones ares also spelled Bloedite and are a quite uncommon stone that is found in salt lakes in various locations in the United States including California, Utah and New Mexico as well as in Austria and Chile.

The pictures shown here came from the Soda Lake Deposit in California in the United States.

Unfortunately these stones from the Californian deposit are hard to get as it is rarely opened to collectors to explore, as it is part of a military base.

This mineral was discovered in a salt deposit in Austria in 1821, and was named after a German mineralogist and chemist Karl August Blode. 

These sodium based stones have a monoclinic crystal structure or may be found in the massive form.

They are fairly brittle with the color of individual stones being caused by the inclusions in them.

They are commonly semi transparent in a range of shades from colorless to yellow, blue-grey, green, grey, brown and even reddish depending on the inclusions.

These black crystals have a number of beneficial healing attributes. They have a high sodium content so it is logical that they would be helpful to assist water retention.
