The physical properties of blue opal, concerns its particular mineral makeup.

It is a silica based stone, meaning it is made up of the same basic mineral that quartz crystals contain, with the addition of other minerals, including copper.

This is a sedimentary mineral that forms when the temperature is quite cool, so these mountainous regions are a perfect location for it to be created. 

The color of this opal stone has been likened to the color of the Caribbean Sea and it can be blue or greenish aqua blue.

This is related to the fact that they contain good amounts of copper, but this varies according to the stone.

Blue Peruvian Opal is also known to contain tiny irregular inclusions of Chrysocolla, another popular copper based stone.

It is said that you can bring back their shiny translucent appearance by immersing them in water, but I haven't tried it.
