This stone was named after Victor Axel Hackman from Finland, who was a geologist and petrologist.

While this stone was first discovered in Greenland, deposits of it have since been found in a number of other places, including in Australia, Pakistan, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Russia and Canada.

Hackmanite is a rare sulfur-rich variety of Sodalite, and while most pieces are quite opaque, it may sometimes (rarely) be transparent or translucent.

This mineral is a rare sulfur-rich variety that is in the same family as the beautiful blue Sodalite stone.

It occurs in the massive form as well as rhombic dodecahedrons, cubo-dodecahedrons or octahedrons.

It is also common for there to be white calcite inclusions within these stones, which you can see in pictures here.
