The name of this stone relates to the German mining engineer and metalurgist Adolph Hubner, who first analysed the stone in 1865.

It is an ore of Tungsten used in industry to harden metal when making tools and is an uncommon stone outside of its industrial use.

It has also been called Megabasite, and is found in the Czech Republic, Saxony, Cornwall, Bolivia and in Nevada in the United States.

Hubnerite is a black or brown crystal, that is also spelled Huebnerite. It is the darker mineral showing in the images.

Its mineral makeup is said to be iron and manganese and its color range is reddish brown, yellow brown and black. You may see reddish colors in some images.

It formation may be prismatic or flattened tabular minerals, or it may occur as blades and in the massive form.

Many pieces have visible striations in the stone, and the mineral often occurs in groups of small crystals, and it often is found in company with quartz crystal, which you will see in many images.
